Song of the south
"Song of the South" was a Walt Disney production of cartoon sequences made in color in 1946 that runs 94 minutes in length. "Song of the South", the Reconstruction-era drama directed by Harve Foster and Wilfred Jackson was the first Disney film to hire professional actors. It should be noted that this movie was taken from a children's book written by Joel Chandler Harris. Many consider "Song of the South" to be a Disney classic film, for its content is rather versatile and many American youth grew up watching this movie. "Song of the South" is a musical animation (for nearly 90 minutes of this film contains music) which deals with the complex themes of family and wild adventure. It was also recently marketed on DVD for the first time. "Song of the South" is about the character Uncle Remus and his tales of Brer Rabbit that help Little Johnny deal with his parents' separation and impending divorce, as well as his new life on the large plantation. Interestingly, the majority of the live action scenes from this movie were actually filmed in Phoenix, Arizona.
"Song of the South" is an important film historically speaking. It won an Oscar at the Academy Awards and has even been the source of a recent Saturday Night Live parody. The popular theme park ride located both at Disneyland in Anaheim, California and at Disneyworld in Orlando, Florida called Splash Mountain was designed based on the theme and plot of this memorable children's movie.
