Google
No other internet search company is more known than Google. It seems the whole world has gone Google. Larry Page and Sergey Brin, in 1996, began Google as a research project. They were looking to optimize on the whole search engine world. The domain name of Google was actually register in September of 1997 and almost a year later the company was incorporated. What started out in a friend's garage is now a multi billion dollar company.
Google is simple in design. Unlike other search engines, Google allows a user just to put in the word he or she wants to search without anything to distract from the intended task, finding information. No clutter!
In order to increase advertising profits, Google began selling advertisements connected with the search keyword in 2000. While others failed in text-based on-line ad world, Google came out as a clear winner generating lots of money.
Google's core business is to provide a free internet search engine with advertisements placed along side and above the "natural" search listings. Google's AdWords contributed to nearly all of its income.
Google and Keyhole launched Google Earth in 2004. This program allows a user to zoom into nearly any spot in the world. Also, in 2004, Google went directly against Hotmail and Yahoo by providing its e-mail users 1 GB of storage space. The free web based market was caught off guard and needed to increase their own storage capacity for its users or lay by the wayside. In 2005, Google entered into the instant messaging world with its Google Talk and now it is integrated with Gmail.
