Turf wars do not have to have a physical space, for both parties to duke it out. It also happens in the virtual world as well. Google search has been used 2. 9 billion times from March 2005-2006. This is a 41% jump in usage from the year prior to that. Even though Google search looks unbeatable in heavy weight fight of search engine companies, along comes Microsoft to jab a little at the pedestal of Google search. Amazon. com recently dropped Google search when their contract was up and decided to go with Microsoft’s search engine. This upper cut punch right in the face of Google search has left many astounded. When you just thought Microsoft was out of the picture, along comes this breaking news and puts Microsoft back on the map. While there are many more rounds to go to find out who will be the last one standing in the internet turf war, one thing is for sure, users will be able to take advantage of each search engine’s technological capabilities.
Google search is known as the clean cut champion. Users just put in the search inquiry they want and wait for the results to come up. There is nothing on Google search engine that distracts you from the intended task. However, MSN search is all glitz and clutter. While it is a very good search engine, many users get distracted from the variety of icons and information on its homepage. One thing is for sure in the internet turf war, it wil be an exciting fight to observe.
